Sweetener sales see big boost in 2010
Despite increased media attention advising against added sugar consumption, 2010 sales of sugarcane, honey and stevia saw impressive growth including a huge leap in sweeteners with stevia as a primary ingredient from $37 million in 2009 to $61 million, according to Schaumburg, Ill.-based market research firm SPINS.
Natural pet food and pet care sales on the rise
Fido still comes first for many consumers. Schaumburg Ill.-based market research firm SPINS reports sales of natural pet food and pet care items grew in 2010 including an impressive boost in the treats and snacks category from $99 million in 2009 to $127 million--a 27 percent increase.
Gluten free continues to grow
Gluten-free foods saw significant growth in 2010 including a 145 percent increase over 2009 in refrigerated nondairy beverages from $4 million to $11 million, according to Schaumburg, Ill.-based market research firm SPINS.
