4 natural ways to enjoy a bath

Whether it’s your daily ritual or monthly indulgence, fill the tub with these restorative natural ingredients (and wash others down the drain).

Create the aura

Bath aficionados know a soothing soak goes deeper than the water. Mildly scented natural aromatherapy, elixirs, and soy candles elevate the mind-body connection during this downtime.

Avoid phthalates and volatile organic compounds like benzene, a known carcinogen.  And if a product simply lists “fragrance,” that’s a red flag.

Bubble up

Who can resist a little bubbly in the bath? Look for products that get their suds from coconut-based surfactants like sodium coco sulfate (rather than potentially irritating sodium lauryl sulfate), or bath “bombs” that use baking soda to fizz.

Soak it in

Bask in skin-softening milk, tea, or seaweed soaks with 6 to 10 drops of relaxing essential oils such as lavender or rose. To draw out skin’s impurities, use mineral-rich sea salts, and ease muscle soreness with therapeutic Epsom salts, made from magnesium sulfate.

Make it last

Don’t dread bath time’s end: Instead, snuggle up in warmed, plush towels made from organic cotton, supersoft bamboo, and other sustainable materials like dried agave fiber. Then polish up your squeaky-clean skin with organic body butters and oils to replenish moisture.
