Global natural & organic food and beverage sales totaled $71 billion in 2008, up almost 12% year over year, according to Nutrition Business Journal estimates. The largest market for natural & organic foods is the United States, which owns 42% of the global market. Western Europe is in second place, making up 37% of the global total. As a percentage of domestic nutrition industry sales, Italy and Switzerland/Austria have the highest contribution from natural & organic foods, at 43% each.
