Salvia hispanica L., or chia, is an ancient Aztec crop that was pushed into obscurity when the Spaniards conquered the Aztec people more than five centuries ago. The seed resurfaced in a big way several years ago and, because of its numerous health properties, is now one of the hottest new products in the nutrition industry. Orlando, Florida-based Lifemax brought the “miracle seed” into the network-marketing arena in October 2008 with the launch of its Mila product. But, as Lifemax Co-Founder Sherri Wear is quick to point out, Mila doesn't contain just any old chia seed — it is made from a “proprietary blend of the best seed grown around the world.”...
