Fast-food musts

Most of us grab haphazard meals more often than usual during December. "But you can eat out and still eat healthy," says Steven Aldana, PhD, author of the Stop & Go Fast Food Nutrition Guide (Maple Mountain, 2007). Follow his lead for preserving nutritional quality.

  • Choose foods that include vegetables, like a sandwich or a stir-fried dish.
  • Buy a meal and share it; many restaurant servings easily feed two.
  • Drink water instead of soda.
  • Try the kids' menu. Most kids' servings are enough for adults.
