Government purchasing criteria helps boost demand, and the list of Green Seal certified vendors grows longer.
While the consumer products side of the natural cleaning market is growing at a healthy 25% to 30% annually, the commercial/institutional side of the market—which focuses on supplying governments, institutions, commercial landlords and janitorial services—is poised for even more vigorous growth.
Buoyed by a tide of activism and awareness, hospitals, school districts, cities, counties, states and other entities are implementing new policies to reduce purchases of potentially harmful mainstream cleaning products in favor of nontoxic and environmentally friendly alternatives. These entities have created a critical mass of purchasers that are not only driving the sales of the small green cleaner manufacturers, such as The Clean Environment Company and Ecogent, but also drawing major suppliers into the green fold.
