Reutter comes up short in 1500m finals

US short track speed skater Katherine Reutter made the medal round in the women's 1500m race at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia on Saturday, but ended up finishing fourth. Reutter, who is sponsored by Bioenergy Ribose, made the finals after surviving a crash in the semis and advancing after another skater was disqualified — a common scenario in the rough and tumble world of short track.

"This was my race and it didn't happen," Reutter said. "I tried to pull an inside pass. It didn't happen and I messed up some people around me and I'm sorry about that."

Reutter's next chance comes Wednesday, when she competes in the women's 1000m, a race in which she won gold at the 2009 World Championships.
