US short track speed skating star Katherine Reutter set an Olympic record in her 500m quarterfinal heat Wednesday, finishing the race with a time of 43.834 seconds. The mark stood only until the next heat, when China’s Wang Meng, who went on to win gold in the event, set a time of 42.284.
Reutter, who is sponsored by Bioenergy Ribose, started slowly in her semifinal heat and was eliminated from medal contention.
"I did what I could," Reutter said. "While I think could have skated better . . . the way I skated was dead-even with the results I got. I don't feel like I got cheated."
