School officials in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Hillsborough, New Jersey, have asked parents not to send their children to school with energy drinks. Broward County, Florida, is considering an outright ban, and a state legislator in Rhode Island has introduced legislation that would ban the drinks from all school grounds.

The future of ageing?
In a mouse study a resveratrol-based proprietary nutraceutical matrix (Longevinex), also containing quercetin and IP-6, exhibited nine-fold greater effects on longevity than research-grade resveratrol or a calorie-restricted diet. The short-term study not only showed the nutraceutical matrix exerted broader effects upon gene expression than calorie restriction or resveratrol alone, but it also molecularly mimicked gene patterns typically seen with long-term calorie restriction.

Paying attention
The European Parliament has voted to adopt a requirement that foods containing the azo-dyes E110, E104, E122, E129, E102 and E124 must be labelled not only with the relevant 'E' number but also with the words, "May have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children."
