Stratum Nutrition, a Novus International Business, has created ApuraGreen, a kiwifruit pectin paste ingredient. ApuraGreen is great for baked goods such as bread, cookies, muffins, cakes and other pastries. The composition allows the ingredient to functional as a natural humectant, which makes for softer, fresher products with an extended shelf life, cuts sugar and fat and provides for a clean label. ApuraGreen is a single, natural ingredient from a whole fruit. It is GMO- and gluten-free, and GRAS with no artificial preservatives or additives. It is naturally high levels in vitamins C and K, and dietary fiber. It can be used to replace eggs, dairy products, butter, cooking oils and casein-derived products in baking. As a fat substitute it can effectively replace up to 90 percent of fats. Ingredient for high-protein pet foods
OptiSol 9000 from Glanbia Nutritionals is a new functional ingredient that allows for the inclusion of 50 percent or more meat in low-grain, high-protein extruded pet diets. The ingredient can reduce processing difficulties traditionally associated with the addition of meat to dry extruded pet foods. In palatability comparisons of dog foods, products made with OptiSol 9000 and consumed by dogs were preferred 7:1 to the leading super premium brand. In breakage and kibble durability testing, products made with OptiSol 9000 produced less than 1 percent fines. In digestibility testing with cats, the product made with OptiSol 9000 showed 82.7 percent dry matter digestibility, 88.3 percent crude protein digestibility, 91.2 percent fat digestibility and 88.3 pecent metabolizable energy digestibility. Cat stool testing resulted in over 95 percent normal stools.

Cargill offers sustainable palm oil
Cargill is now offering palm oil certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) to North American food manufacturers. This step by Cargill—the largest North American importer of palm oil—supports the company's goal that the palm oil it imports is grown sustainably. RSPO certification for Cargill's United States refineries follows its European and Malaysian operations, which were certified to offer RSPO products to food manufacturers in 2010. Cargill's palm plantation, PT Hindoli in Sumatra, Indonesia, was one of the first 15 to receive RSPO certification in 2009. The company formed a partnership with Fauna & Flora International (FFI) to assess areas of orangutan populations for future study and conservation, and to share best practices in palm plantation development.
