On May 15, 2015, FDA posted on their website; FDA and Marijuana: Questions and Answers, a statement that the agency considers CBD products to be excluded from the definition of “dietary supplements.”
Since the NHNM Expo Exhibitor Standards are based on FDA and other regulations, discussions at the executive management level were held to determine an effective policy with respect to CBD. A decision was made to not allow “foods, supplements and cosmetics containing cannabidiol to be exhibited on the Natural Products Expos or Engredea show floors, until further notice”.
However, as a result of further discussions, comments and suggestions from various industry members and advisors, the New Hope Standards policy stating; “foods, supplements and cosmetics containing cannabidiol may not be exhibited on the Natural Products Expos or Engredea show floors, until further notice”, has been revised.
Natural Products Expos have updated our exhibitor standards as follows:
Cannabidiol (CBD) dietary supplements not allowed at Natural Products Expos.
The Expo standards department is requesting that exhibitors do not display, sample or promote CBD products packaged or labeled as dietary supplements, based on U.S. FDA’s May 13, 2015 statement that the agency considers CBD products to be excluded from the definition of “dietary supplements.” FDA and Marijuana: Questions and Answers
