Q&A with the medical director and founder of the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine
When Erminia “Mimi” Guarneri, MD, FACC, was designing the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine, she wanted to create a medical facility that would bring together the best of Western medicine with the best of other healthcare modalities to heal her patients' bodies, minds and souls. Opened in 1999, Scripps is known for its high-tech and high-touch approach to healthcare and is recognized as one of the leading integrative medicine centers in the United States.
Nutrition Business Journal spoke with Guarneri in October to find out how she views the role of dietary supplements in integrative medicine, what she feels needs to happen to begin fixing the United States' healthcare crisis, and how the economic downturn is likely to affect integrative medicine, including supplement usage.
